Skerries v Lucan Sarsfield Intermediate Shield Semi Final

With a home draw this was a great chance for the girls to reach the final.

We started really brightly and should have had a more commanding lead only for some fantastic saves from the opposition goalkeeper. The team play was fantastic with quick ball from back to front and with some great scores from Lyndsey Davey ,Sinead Cullen,Robyn Buckley and Hannah Coleman this gave us a strong  lead of 0-8pts v 0-4pts.Our defense was again brilliantly marshalled by our Captain Saoirse Kavanagh, the midfield was dominated by the non stop running of Eve Keogh and the ever impressive Sarah Muldon.

With 5 minutes to go in the 1st half Saoirse had a brilliant turnover and quickly turned defense into attack and with some great handpassing and the ball eventually ending up in Lyndsey hands, with a bit of good fortune we got the goal we well deserved from our dominant 1st half display leading at half time 1-10 v 0-4.

The 2nd half was tough against a strong wind but the girls started well and got the 1st score of the 2nd half with a well taken point from Cathy Coleman.

With some dubious decisions from the referee the girls lost a bit of momentum and Lucan came back into the game with a couple of scores reducing the gap to 7 pts.Lyndsey then scored another fantastic team score that started from our own backline to give us a lead of 8pts again.Robyn Buckley was shown a yellow card, again a ridiculous decision from the referee, this was then quickly followed by another yellow for Lyndsey who was fouled herself, but again the referee saw it the other way and sent her to the sideline. With 13 players on the pitch it was all hands to the pump and with some great team defending Lucan only got another couple of scores to reduce the lead to 5pts.Sinead Cullen then scored a fine individual point weaving her way past 4 defenders and slotting it over the bar.Lucan created another few opportunities one resulting in a fine save from Orla Corcoran at point blank range and with some great pressure on their forwards from our defenders they only got 2 more scores.

We ended up deserving winners 1-13 v 0-11 and now can look forward to a final against our neighbours St Maurs in Skerries at 3pm on the 25th September.

Overall a very impressive performance from the girls.
