MINOR B CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL 10/11/2024

Skerries Harps v Ballyboden St. Enda’s

Sunday 10th November 2024 11:00am

Skerries Main Pitch

Roared on by a brilliant home support, the Skerries Harps Minor Footballers claimed the Minor B Championship on Sunday morning with a hard fought 1-point victory over a resolute Ballyboden team. In a tense opening half, both sides found it difficult to find space with scores at a premium. The sides couldn’t be separated at the half at 3 points apiece, with a Paddy Copeland free and 45 and a Fionn McAfee point from play for the home side. Skerries started the second half the brighter team and held a 0-9 to 0-4 lead.

Finn McGinnis, Ben Walsh, Paddy Copeland, Cillian Emmett and Seán Mooney with the scores. Seán Wilson put in a stellar performance at fullback, turning the opposition over and making last ditch blocks to keep Ballyboden at bay. Ballyboden did manage to wrestle back momentum with a well taken goal with 10 minutes remaining. With just a minute left in normal time, a deflected Ballyboden shot found the top corner of the net, to leave Ballyboden in the lead by a point. This team has shown great resolve all year and were not to be denied, working the ball calmly down the field, to captain Cillian Emmett, for the equalising score. Then, deep into injury time, a high raking shot from the left-hand sideline from Seán Mooney, curled over the bar and the Harps had the lead once again.

Skerries had one final defensive stand and were not found wanting. The whistle blew shortly after and Skerries Harps were Minor Champions!

Final Score: Skerries Harps 0-12 Ballyboden St. Enda’s 2-5

Huge thanks to all those who came out and supported the team and mentors on Sunday morning - the roar of a home crowd can make all the difference in a tight game!

Thanks also to Donnacha for the match report & Michael for the pictures, both of which capture the drama, tension and emotion of the match
